Notices for Jan 10, 2018

Hi WHC Families,

This week, practices are OPEN to viewing. Please note that the policy is typically the first two weeks in the month they’re open, however, during the week leading up to competitions, practices are always closed to parent viewing.

Make-up/Additional Practices this weekend:

Saturday, January 13

Courage – 12 -2 pm

Charm – 3 – 4:15 pm.

Sunday, January 14

Envy – 10:30 am – Noon

Crush – Note that Crush will be at regular time. We were going to have it earlier in the day but have decided to leave it as per normal schedule.

HAIR AND MAKE-UP SESSION: Our very own, and very talented, Jessie Strum, will be hosting a make up and hair session at the Orange Dome this Sat. Jan. 13 from 12 – 2 pm.  The cost is $10 per person. This is recommended for anyone new to cheer  hair & make up, or anyone who would just like a refresher!

WHC’S 4th ANNUAL SHOWCASE: Our annual Showcase is approaching quickly!  This is an event where ALL WHC teams perform their current routines for WHC family and friends only.

**NOTE: Unfortunately this event is NOT open to WHC friends from other cheer clubs.  This Showcase a great way to show our Orange family all of the hard work our coaches and athletes have put in so far this season, and to work out the competitions jitters! We welcome pictures and videos of your athletes, but please respect that we do not want ANY routine video footage posted on any social media platform to protect our choreography prior to the first competition of the season, Cheer Blast. This will only assist our direct competition in making changes to enhance their routines.

DateSaturday, January 20th

Time: Athletes arrive at approximately 3 pm (see schedule below); Performances for the West Hali Fans will begin at 5 pm

Location: Halifax West High School

Cost: $5 at the door for all spectators over the age of 5 (athletes are not charged)

This is a Mandatory event and athletes will be expected to be dropped off early, so that each team have floor time to warm up stunts safely. The warm up and performance schedule is as follows:

Uniforms for showcase: Unfortunately our AMAZING Season 10 Uniforms are NOT likely to arrive in time for showcase, but they will be here before our first Competition “Cheer Blast” which is February 3-4, 2018. Athletes are asked to wear “ALL BLACK” and Season 9’s competition bow. This would include any WHC tank tops, sports bras, shorts etc. with our logo and/or any other all black clothing which is appropriate. This is also considered a dress rehearsal for Hair (up and out of the athletes face and off of their shoulders) and Cheer make-up (for those who wish to wear it). Athletes are asked to arrive to the venue as if they were competing.  Many pictures will be taken and used for social media!

Fees: Note that the January payment (if you are paying on the 3 installment plan) of $442 for most competitive teams is now due. Please note that the $75 deposit on the mandatory athlete fee for the Niagara trip is also overdue.  Also, the 2nd payment for the uniform is due before your child is allowed to pick up their uniform. We are taking a firm stance on this. No uniforms shall be given out to the athletes if they are not paid for in full. The first 50% was due earlier in the fall, and the 2nd half must be paid on or before pick up.  We must take a firm stance on this as the cost is too high for WHC to absorb.

CHEER BLAST: Cheer Blast is WHC’s annual competition that we host in partnership with Scotia Cheerleading All-stars. We typically run Day 1 of the competition (Saturday) and SCA’s parents run Day 2, with a bit of overlap. We have a sign up sheet available for everyone to be able to participate. We need lots of volunteers for the competition to run on time and smoothly! Please take a look at the shifts, and sign up if you are available! We realize that we are asking you to sign up for shifts before the competition schedule is created. If you need to switch a shift after it’s created, you can also do that on the sign up page. This link can also be found on our website.

WHC Group Text: WHC has a group text set up that you can register for. This is useful in situations where we need to cancel practice with short notice, most typically due to inclement weather.  You can sign up for the group text here: Note you can also unsubscribe from the same link.

Learn to Cheer & Tumble: WHC is running another session of Learn to Cheer and Tumble. You can forward the registration link to anyone you think might be interested in a non-commitment intro to cheer program.

Thanks, have a great week!

Erica, Jana, and Ashley
