Dear WHC Families
We’re now into the second week of practices! A few reminders:
Sports Bras without shirts are only permitted when the gym is closed to parent viewing.
Viewing rooms: We are asking that parents remain inside the rooms, and stay clear of the aisles. We have moved our pro-shop items into the middle room to open up some more space in the office, and this room can still be used as viewing; however, it may not always be open due to the inventory of items for sale in there. A Team Manager who is scheduled to work in the pro-shop will open the room when they are present, which is expected to be during most practices. The reason for this is safety. We need to keep the noise levels to a minimum, especially when more than one team is practicing at a time so the athletes can hear their coaches and vice versa.
Athletes/siblings/friends who are not practicing: Unless you’re participating in a tumbling lesson, private, or a team practice, all athletes should also be inside the rooms, with the exception of the kids who arrive a few minutes early for their practice or private tumbling lesson. Those athletes can wait along the lockers/hooks, or on the orange square carpet between the floors. Please keep the chatter to a minimum if you arrive in the gym a bit early, as there are teams and private lessons occurring.
First payments were due at your first practice (deposit for joining a WHC competitive team). The first monthly payment is due July 1st. Please remember that failure to attend practices does not constitute withdrawal, and notification must be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org in order to withdraw from the program.
Absences: Please remember to email email@example.com if you are going to be absent from a practice. Texting or Facebook posts do not always reach the coach in time, by emailing this address, we will be able to properly plan for your absence.
Travel teams: As per the information package, the Junior teams will be traveling this year. Plans will be made later this summer. We will also have some parent meetings to discuss the trip (especially in regard to Unity – which is comprised of mostly new athletes) . The fundraising for the travel teams will begin shortly. Stay tuned for more information regarding the travel; however, if you are currently on a Junior team and 100% know you CANNOT travel this year, we need to know asap. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you cannot travel in 2017.
Tumbling: Several people have asked about the process for booking private tumbling. Please visit our website for information. Christine Fyfe is our Tumbling Coordinator. She posts the available times on a regular basis, and assigns spots on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please keep in mind that she works full time, and even though the site may not be updated to reflect a spot you have booked, it is possible she hasn’t yet updated the schedule. For more information, please contact her at Christine@westhalifaxcheer.com. We are also offering some group tumbling this summer. Group tumbling details are posted below.
Uniform Swap: If you have a uniform that no longer fits, or if you’re not returning to cheer (please pass this message onto your friends), contact Caren@westhalifaxcheer.com and we will sell your uniform for you at the swap (September 2016). If you need a uniform this year, we strongly recommend you attempt to purchase one second-hand, as the new ones are expensive and you’d only get to use it one season as we are going with a new style next year. This means you also wouldn’t be able to sell it next season if you outgrew it or if you didn’t return to cheer. Numbers are assigned to parents looking for a uniform on a first-come first-serve basis, and then you can sort through the stock we have (in September) in numerical order. So please contact Caren Yeomans, or stop by the Pro Shop in the gym to obtain your number.
We are offering a few exciting (OPTIONAL) classes this summer!
Dance & Tumble (NEW!!): Coach Jessica is running a 4-week dance & tumbling combination class on Fridays in July (July 8, 15, 22, 29). This is a combination of dance and tumble elements incorporating all requirements coaches look for when placing athletes in their routines! This session is designed to help the athletes reach their highest potential with a new high-intensity program built to increase dance and tumble technique, increase confidence, keep in shape and have fun!
There are two sessions available:
- Level 1 & 2 for Mini, Youth, and Junior athletes: (Friday, July 8, 15, 22, and 29) at 6 pm – 7 pm.
- Junior Level 3 (Adore) and any senior team (any level): (Friday, July 8, 15, 22, and 29) at 7 pm – 8 pm.
The cost for these classes is $35 plus tax = $40.25 for the 4 weeks. Please register here!
Group Tumbling: Coaches Becca, Kristen, and Jessica are offering a 4-week July group tumbling session. The following are the classes being offered on Sundays in the Orange Dome:
- Level 1 ages 12 and younger (any team), Sunday, July 10, 17, 24, and 31) from 4pm – 5pm with Kristen & Becca
- Level 2 ages 12 and younger (any team), Sunday, July 10, 17, 24, and 31) from 5pm – 6 pm with Kristen & Becca
- Level 1 & 2 ages 12 and older (any team), Sunday, July 10, 17, 24, and 31) from 5pm – 6 pm with Jessica
- Level 3 + (any age), Sunday, July 10, 17, 24, and 31) from 6 pm – 7 pm with Jessica

Summer Camp: Please note we still have space available in 4 week-long summer camps!! Prices for the camps are $200 for the week (or $45/day) and include early/late drop-off/pick up, two awesome field trips, lots of tumbling and cheer lessons, and lots of fun/games! Please register here!
