Notices for Tuesday, November 24, 2015

Dear WHC families,

What’s up this week:

Open/Closed Practices: This week practices are CLOSED.  Team Moms are still in the gym to assist with pro-shop and take payments as required.

Theme WeekThis week is “seeing double” week. Everyone should pick a partner or two and dress as twins, triplets, quadruplets (i.e. base groups), whatever you want! We want to see DOUBLE! This is for your last practice this week.

Tumbling:  In case not everyone is aware, we have three new coaches who are available to coach private lessons. Kristen White, Becca Yeomans and Jordan Kelsie are recently credentialed USASF level 1 & 2 and can also coach privates! These awesome ladies are available for private lessons that can be booked through Christine ( They are currently only coaching level 1 privates at this time for athletes 12 and younger, but will be able to do level 2 in the near future (likely after Christmas). This is a fantastic way for some of our younger athletes to get some private lessons in. Please contact Christine if you’re interested in booking with these awesome coaches!

Competition and Showcase Updates:

Competition DatesOur current competition dates and associated information can be found here:

Potential Cape Breton competition(s):  The potential competition in Port Hawksbury has been cancelled; therefore, no WHC teams will be attending. We will also not be attending the one in Sydney, as many parents were concerned about driving so far in February. Therefore, WHC will not be going to Cape Breton this year.

WHC Showcase– WHC’s 2nd Annual Showcase will be held at JL Ilsley High School on January 23, 2016 from 4-7 pm. We have the cafeteria as well so we can have refreshments. The showcase is an important annual event where all WHC teams showcase their routine for all other WHC teams prior to our first competition. This helps prepare all the athletes for competition and is a great way to show families and athletes all of WHC routines (without being at a full all-day competition).  This is hugely successful in helping get the performance “jitters” out for our athletes. The showcase is mandatory.

Home Mats for saleWe have been able to get a better quote on home mats (4×6 mats that roll up and are the same as the ones we practice on in the gym, just shorter). Please let us know if you’d like one. They will be approximately $175 and will take a couple of weeks to arrive. The expectation is that these will arrive prior to Christmas (could be as soon as next week!). A perfect Christmas gift!

Fundraising Reminders:

Online Auction

The auction is live!

Social Reminders:

Movember:  We have little mustaches and some picture frame props in the gym. We’re encouraging everyone to take some pictures of the athletes and parents with the mustaches, post on social media, and hashtag it with #whc4movember and #movemberhalifax, and WHC will donate $1 for every picture. Spread the awareness!

Charity For HolidaysWe do not have a gift exchange for the athletes at WHC.  We are too large for that, someone could potentially get left out.  We instead work together for various charities.

Team Gift Bags:  We have a bag for each team and a theme for that bag. Each team can donate toys for the specific gender/age and we will donate it to the Cineplex Toy Drive oDecember 11, 2015. If you’re unsure about what to donate for your team, please ask your team mom.

Barbie Drive:  We are aiming to collect 5 Barbies per team.  These go to Audrey’s Barbies. This a charity for a little girl that was from the Tantallon area that passed away at the Old Orchard Inn a couple of years ago.  Her father collects Barbies at Christmas and they all get donated to the IWK. The deadline for this is December 18, 2015.

WHC Annual Skating PartyWHC is hosting our annual skating party at the Tantallon Rink – December 19, 2015 at 2:30 pm. We are asking everyone to bring a food drive item to donate to Feed NS. We will be serving hot chocolate and Timbits. We will also have a special surprise for our CIT’s at the skating party!!

Thanks everyone,

Erica, Jana & Ashley
